Mexico in Disarray, after Cartel leader "El Mencho" killed.

Security forces in Mexico remain on high alert following a major operation targeting organized crime in Jalisco. Federal authorities confirmed that a high-ranking cartel figure was killed during a military raid in the mountainous region near Tapalpa, triggering a wave of violent reprisals across several states.

In the hours after the operation, armed groups set vehicles on fire, blocked highways, and exchanged gunfire with security forces in parts of Jalisco, Michoacán, and Guanajuato. Local officials urged residents to remain indoors while additional troops were deployed to restore order.

The federal government described the operation as a significant step in its strategy to weaken cartel leadership structures. However, analysts warn that power vacuums can lead to short-term spikes in violence as rival factions compete for control.

U.S. consular authorities issued security alerts advising caution for travelers in affected regions. Schools and public transportation services in some municipalities were temporarily suspended as authorities worked to stabilize the situation.
