Total Blackouts in Cuba, leave everyday citizens in the dark.

Cuba is in the middle of one of its worst energy crises in decades. Following a U.S. oil blockade that cut off Venezuela and Mexico as fuel suppliers, the island is now facing daily blackouts affecting up to 64% of the population. Power deficits have reached 2,000 megawatts, nighttime light levels in eastern cities have dropped by 50%, and the government has shifted to a four-day workweek just to conserve fuel.
This isn't just a Cuban issue, it's a Caribbean one. Energy vulnerability, geopolitical pressure, and economic fragility are realities shared across our region. As the U.S. and Cuba enter early-stage diplomatic talks, the outcome will shape the broader Caribbean political landscape for years to come.
As an organization rooted in Caribbean solidarity, Caribico stands by the people of Cuba during this humanitarian crisis.
